At a young age of 17, Augusts was facing a decision to either quit racing or race MX2 World Championship. He chose to challenge himself and took a chance to race against the best in the world. At age 19 he was forced to level up and race MXGP 450 class. He achieved a lot of victories in Latvia, completing a full season every year. During the time Augusts has traveled the world, battled against the very best, scoring a lot of points and finishing off his racing career by ranking 19th in the world.
